I have been gathering some information about this project called 100 campaign. The mission of the 100 Campaign is to ensure that 100% of people living with Type 1 diabetes have access to insulin by 2022. I believe that this is a great campaign and I would like to get as involved with it as I can.
Did you know that in Mali insulin is only avaailable in one in five treatments centres? Or that the life expectancy for a child born with diabetes in sub-Saharan Africa can be as low as one year? That is one year! Just because they don't have #access2insulin yet!

Why is insulin so much more expensive than other similar treatments?
♦ An estimated 80% of the global insulin market is being controlled by three pharmaceutical companies (50% of insulin being produced by Novo Nordisk alone). In comparison, for one of the fastest selling asthma drugs in the world, there are at least 10 major pharmaceutical companies competing for the market. Despite insulin being a 92-year old medication, today there are very few generic insulin producers on the heavily monopolized market, partly due to the barriers to entry. Given the increase in people being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes this is to get sick of.
